Jesus Christ is a superior high priest to any Old Testament priest because he was called by God to be a priest in Melchizedek’s order, which was superior to Aaron’s order. Furthermore, he holds his priesthood permanently because of his endless life, becoming “the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him.”

Nothing would make Paul keep the message of Christ to himself. Our faith should be open and presented to the lost.

Jesus, God’s faithful Son, is superior to Moses, God’s faithful servant and the “founding father” of Old Covenant religion. Just as the Israelites in the wilderness could not enter God’s rest because of unbelief, we too ought to strive to enter that rest by persevering in faith in Jesus Christ.

Paul was appointed to be a “servant and witness” (v. 16). As disciples, we have no higher calling or greater privilege than to be servant-witnesses for Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ, God’s Son, is superior to God’s prophets and servants, the angels. If the Law revealed by God’s prophets and angels punished those who disobeyed, we must not turn away from faith in God’s Son. His incarnation and suffering for sin makes him the perfect Brother Priest.

The Jews were up to their same plots, the officials were up to their same tricks, Paul was committed to the same gospel, and Christ is still advancing his Word through his servants.

While Paul exposes their charges as false, he shows that his love for God is true. What Paul did “confess” to is what we should all be “guilty” of.

Communion aids us in our perseverance. It keeps our testimony vibrant and our eyes fixed on the Founder and Perfecter of our faith. It connects us to all who looked faithfully for his return!
