Pastor Dave Smith

Assistant Pastor

Pastor Smith earned a Bachelor of Arts in Children’s Ministries and a Master of Arts in Teaching Bible from Bob Jones University as well as a Master of Divinity degree from Detroit Baptist Theological Seminary. The Lord has allowed him to serve in the assistant role in churches, a Christian camp, and a Seminary before directing him to Westerville in 2016. Pastor Smith and his wife Nicole have five children.

Having grown up in a family of believers who served in various ministerial roles, I was accustomed to being surrounded by ministry opportunities. For a long time I misunderstood true discipleship—I thought that a simple prayer and a life of positive activity lead to an eternity of bliss. Though I had made a profession of faith as a young child, I did not recognize the reality of my sin problem until I was a teenager. God graciously (and very patiently) humbled me again and again until I began to see myself as he saw me: a sinner in need of a Savior.

Once I began repenting of my sins, the Lord began to teach me a great deal about himself and my continuous need to depend upon him. Not only did this make me thankful for his goodness to me, but it also gave me the desire to help others learn of God’s goodness. My desire to make disciples for Christ continues to grow and the opportunities he has granted me here in Westerville are treasured gifts.

My passion for our church is that together we would glorify God by becoming more like Jesus in every aspect of our lives and that our true fellowship with him and with each other would become more and more evident to our neighbors. I am confident (as was Paul) that “he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ” (Phil. 1:6).
