While we don’t desire to build personal empires, we do want to build a lasting “household” that testifies to the goodness of God.
Jesus was and is Lord of the Sabbath, and the Pharisees’ laundry list of extra-biblical regulations couldn’t change that.
What Jesus taught was unlike anything the scribes and Pharisees could ever bring to the table, because He was and is the perfect Teacher.
Sin is not to be coddled. It is a predator, and must be attacked.
The purpose of this gospel is that the Son of God, who was the Son of Man, is the only hope Israel or we have for salvation.
The believer’s chief end is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.
All of life is continuing education for the believer, to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions.
Just as the Israelites made a covenant to obey God, believers today should be committed to the authority of God’s Word, separate from the world’s values, and faithful in supporting community worship with their energy and resources.
Our hearts should thrill to study the Son of Man and all it means, because our Lord is gracious, glorified, and returning with glory.
In Nehemiah 9, the battles are no longer against neighboring adversaries; the real fight is against sin in the heart.
